Ballad
In Her Own Way
Lyrics
After forty years of lesson plans, they’d such nice things to say.
They sipped champagne ‘til evening came, said all they had to say.
With stories told, a watch of gold to celebrate her day.
They said, we hope the best for your tomorrows.
The memories will help to light your way.
She’d always seemed to care. She always had been there.
Her kindness was remembered this fine today.
Tear in their eye, they said goodbye with nothing more to say.
But she hoped she changed the world in her own way.
In her own way.
And when the party finished, she turned to walk away.
A young man touched her arm and said he had one thing more to say.
He said he was in her classroom so many years ago.
Though she might not remember him there’s one thing she should know.
He said she gave him hope for his tomorrows.
And confidence to help him find his way.
When no one seemed to care she always had been there.
Her kindness he remembered still today.
Tear in his eye he said goodbye with nothing more to say.
But she knew she changed the world in her own way.
In her own way.
